They're called Goddess Dreads now? 0_o;

Either way I'll give this tutorial a gander.

It's what I'm used to calling them. The first set I made suited a Shiva costume so my son's dad called them goddess dreads.

Bravo! Thanks for the tut!
I always wanted to be someone. But only now do I realise...I should've been more specific .

That is a really interesting way to seal,
except I got distracted around the 6:30 mark because there's someone in the background flailing around on the couch in underpants

Got a link to a finished or installed set? I would love to see a better image of the finished product.

I'm curious... How sturdy are the dreads when sealed with that method? Do they loosen up quicker than say, steaming them?

I will have a pic of a finished set in a couple days. I don't have pics of them installed anymore. (Had to wipe my computer and didn't have anything backed up.) As soon as they are done, I'll get them posted, though.

In my experience, they hold up alot better with this method. I couldn't get the middle of the dreads sealed very well with a steamer. My friend prefers to steam them, though. (She forgets to keep an eye out while they are in the dryer.) It probably comes down to whatever method a person prefers to use.

Very interesting sealing technique ^^

Just need a dryer that doesn't cost me $1.50 a load XD

I'm so glad that there's a comprehensive tutorial on this!

I guess I don't know the chemistry of the kanekalon, but... Why the cloth? Does it just keep it from getting too hot? I'm a little confused on that.

I don't doubt it's necessary, I just love knowing things. :i2:

Again, thanks for the tutorial!!

The cloth is because I am a chicken sh*t. I didn't want to risk scalding my fingers with hot water while trying to pour boiling water over the dreads while keeping them twisted correctly. I wrapped them with cloth so I could just throw them in the boiling pot and not have to worry about my fingers. ;)

OHHH!! Thanks SO much for clearing that up!! I thought that it did some amazing magical thing that I was somehow TOTALLY missing on!

(A combination of boiling dreads in the past and guitar callouses has left my fingers immune to most boiling water, haha!)

I'm DEFINITELY doing these with my next batch. Thanks again for a great tutorial!
