Broken hair/baby hair

Post by KelsieStars » Mon Mar 12, 2012 11:29 am

Hello!

I've been growing my hair for the past couple of years (it 's *just about* down to my bra-strap now) - but my hair has become very fragile (through illness I think) and has started to break. Now when I tie it back I've got really annoying frizzy bits that stick up/stick out all over the place! Coupled with the baby hair at the front of my hair I look like a complete frizz-monster these days!

Do any of you have any recommendations for products to help? I guess I'm looking for strengthening shampoos & conditioners? I've got a GHD serum that I've been using to try to flattened down the broken hair - but my hair is so fine it just makes it look greasy! :x

Any help would be appreciated!

Hey lady,

When wet does your hair stretch and snap/just snap when tested? If it's the first your locks will need more protein, the second and you're after moisture. Mine does both if I'm not super careful at balancing treatments!

I can happily recommend for protein: Joico K-Pak when hair feels dreadfully stretchy (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Joico-K-Pak-Pen ... 536&sr=8-1), and Aussie 3 min miracle luscious long (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aussie-Minute-M ... =1-1-spell) or when things aren't so bad.

For the moisture boost: VO5 Give Me Moisture shampoo and conditioner (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vo5-Moisture-Sh ... 898&sr=8-1) or their elixir ones as they're pretty good too. Also the Aussie moisture boost one's good (I just can't stand the smell)

For those pesky flyaways I use Rockaholic Shine Blaster (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tigi-Rockaholic ... 083&sr=8-1) applied to wet hair sparingly and the blowdry. It also smells delicious and lasts forever!

I also bought a Tangle Teaser, they don't last forever and they seem over priced; but my hair doesn't snap nearly as much as it does with a regular styling brush and it's brill for my daughter's hip length hair, with the added bonus of neither of us crying when it come to detangling

Hope this is a little helpful :)

I second the K-pack. is is amazing stuff! If you are looking to be frugal, Sally Beauty sells a generic.

I have also soaked my hair in olive oil for an hour and rinsed it out. it made my hair super shiny and seemed to make it stronger as well.

I've checked and I think it's just moisture that I'm lacking - so I've invested in some better shampoo/conditioner/treatment stuff and I'll see how it goes. The Rockaholic stuff sounds great - I think next payday I'll get myself some of that! Thank you hun!

Ooooh I like the idea of the home-treatment with olive oil - I shall give that a go. Thank you!

Redken makes some awesome products in there Extreme line that work great for me. Shampoo, conditioner, and a heavier conditioner.
