When you latch hook it through, do you knot it or secure it in any way?
Seems like you'd need to, otherwise hair would be pulling out every which way.
Or does sealing it with boiling water secure it it well enough?
There are no rules anywhere. The Goddess prevails.

Wig-makers use both single- and double-knotting when ventilating; single knots are less obvious and (from what I've read in my online research) are used for areas close to the hairline and parting(s). Double knots are more secure, but seem to only be used in full-lace wigs... lacefronts tend to have wefts where double-knotted strands would be on a full-lace unit.

I've never found any info on how to double-knot, though. :|

The site below has a really good step-by step guide to ventilating wigs and hairpieces:

That's ONE of the like 20 websites I used to being my own ventilating adventures. I'll still do a tut here though, so everyone can know just exactly what to do for our own fringe purposes.

That would be fab! I look forward to some pictures, I've been meaning to have a go at fringes for ages now and that one looks so lovely and natural :D

I have taken the photos, now I just need to edit and load them. Getting close! The fringe which I made for the tut is black and a soft red. I mixed a red with blonde and white to make it softer and sweeter. It's very nice. Post them soon, hopefully today.

Thanks for the pix! I had a fairly good idea of what you did, but they clear up a few things that I wasn't so sure about...

Bought something called floral tulle in the $2 shop today... it's a *really* fine-gauge nylon mesh, even finer than bridal tulle. My 1.0mm (1/25") crochet hook might even be too big to fit through the holes; I've had an idea involving a modified darning needle attached to a pencil or biro to create a ghetto ventilating tool. Now to find the time (and motivation) to carry through with my dastardly plan! :i9:

Oooh, very good tute! Thanks!
To begin with, a dog is not mad. you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I am mad.

What kind of hair did you use for this?

100% KK Jumbo Braid straightened with boiling water. I now also straighten with electric irons< faster and no dry time. I've heard warnings against using jumbo braid for such things, however my fringes which I've worn lots have lasted really well, no tangling. I've even washed them and everything. It's going great!

This is awesome. Will have to apply this to a full wig at some point.

Question tho...where do you get the latch hook? Can you pick one up at any generic craft store?

The latch hook I am using is from Sally's Beauty Supply. I got it with one of those high lighting caps with the holes, however you can just get the latch hook alone at Sally's. Or ask IKS!
