*WARNING* PREPARE FOR PHOTO SPAMMAGE

Soooooooo, I sorta figured it would be easier to wait a month to show how my babies are doing. Obviously in the beginning there isn't a whole lot to see other than messy looking poof similar to what happens after a long night at an 80s party. But, I have to say, I almost surprised at how far my dreadlings have come in only a month.

Image
^^ literally right after backcombing was finished

Image
^^ about a week I'm pretty sure. still little poof-balls

Image
^^ the crocheting has commenced! after 6 hours and not even finishing half my head I was about ready to stab myself with the crochet hook.

Image
^^the world apparently felt my agony for crocheting, because the next day after finishing 1/2 my head I fell and couldnt use my arm for a while. -.- but one side of my head looks decent at least

Image
^^ thus far my favorite way to wear my hair. pulled back and in a scarf. super easy and looks pretty good too. :D

Image
^^ and lastly taken today at exactly 4 weeks of dread. crocheting is done and my dreads are nice and tight because of it (for as much a pain it is to do it REALLY helps) and this is right after my first washing. lush jumping juniper shampoo bar FTW.

I finally found some pics of my real dreads. Sadly don't have them anymore, but I will be having them re-done soon! Possibly not in black though. 1st pic is just after I'd had them put in:

And next 2 pics are at about 3-4 months old:

Thank you! I really regret taking them out, but I am having them put back in again in February, but this time they'll be purple with dip-dyed blue ends! Squeeee! Can't wait!

That sounds really awesome. Please post pics! I'm wanting to put dreads in my hair but I don't think I could commit. I love looking at the pictures though.

BEFORE EXTENSIONS (5 months):

AND AFTER EXTENSIONS:

My plan is to color them the colors of fall: deep red (u can already see that in there), orange, bleached, leave some natural and a little bit of deep green in there. Unfortunately, the hair I added won't be bothered by bleach... (see bottom picture - my hair bleached but the ex didn't) so I need to get a different type of fake/real hair. Does anyone have any suggestions for that? Or what worked for them...? I don't really care about texture or anything too much, I just need them to color/bleach.
Thanks. <3

I'm back! Although still unknown, here are my dreads. I don't recall their age in these, but now they're almost 2 months.

A few progress pics that were taken on my holidays. Containing unprecedented legs out and beachwear shots. You have been warned.

The dreads are about 3 months old, the body is considerably older.

They were dunked in pools and seawater so many times over the last two weeks, and therefore have needed serious washing. Now they need a major crocheting and a root-job but i'm loving how they are coming along.

Looking gorgeous gracey! Did you find the salt in the sea water helped to lock them up at all, iykwim?

Thanks doll.

Yes, the seasalt does work wonders. As soon as it dries you can feel the difference. I'm not so sure about the pool though, and having a fourteen-year-old nephew among our party ensured it got thoroughly doused each time I went anywhere near. Also, it's inevitable that they get a coating of suncream everyday so I had to wash it quite a lot and let it dry in the sun.

I'm assuming a lot of conditioner and a comb, plus a shit tonne of patience.

Also. I can now join in this thread *excited squeak*, my head is well and truly dreaded, the back is having trouble staying backcombed and is needing a little bit of help dreading up. But I'm in love. I'm planning on extending them when I have enough money to buy hair

Image

Best pic I could get of the back (they're clipped up)

And then these are mixed with some of Nique's dreads, for when I couldn't be bothered to dread the back.

Lovely colored dreads! Very nice, and they look so full for being neat and thin.

Thanks everyone! Best decision I ever made. I am going to start washing my hair with baking soda as I've heard it's a god send. I also bought some solid shampoo bars from lush, which I used to use all the time but think will be lovely for my dreads.

And Gracey, you are the main inspiration for my dreadhead, your dreads look amazing!

Goffy_lucc - the dreads look great, fantastic colour combo! And yes, you're right, taking out the natural dreads without having to cut them off involved 2 days of me and my husband dousing my head in bucketloads of conditioner, and then savaging it with a metal toothed comb. This resulted in much pain for me and much arm ache for him. It takes lots and lots of patience and a high pain threshold to pull this off, but I did manage to save the length - only to then damage it beyond repair with bleach and have to have a pixie cut anyway! Ooops! Never mind, it's long enough now to be re-dreaded and have extenders put it! yay! Can't wait!

A couple more shots I've come across.

And a version of the same worn as an updo. We were going on a boat to a beach for a mudbath and I wanted to make sure I didn't get mud in my dreads.

Last look at these babies pink before they go teal <3

Image

They are messy and need some love soon. I'm trying not to play with them too much at the moment. The back is still having problems locking but, but I guess neglect and just tearing them apart will help them form I hope!
