How to Make Pre-Made Synthetic Dreads Look More Natural?

I received some synthetic clip-in dread extensions in the mail and they look more like twisted locks of yarn than dreads. (Too smooth and “spiral” looking). How can I make them look more natural - (rough them up?), without ruining them, since they have already been made into dreads and attached to clips? I have no personal experience with dreadlocks at all, and don’t want to invest the time trying to make them from scratch - (ergo, I bought these pre-made). Any tips you can share would be really appreciated!

You can carefully add some backcombing and then use a crochet hook to pull fibers through and tighter or use the iron seal method to compact them.
Maybe this tutorial will help:
