First curly dreads

Post by bluexeon » Sat Dec 04, 2010 4:40 pm

Ive only ever had one set of curly dreads and I only had 8. Here is a set of 40 DE curlies i have made. I think ive curled them right. I didnt want them to be too tightly curled but didnt want them too flat either. I used a steamer to seal them and a steamer around a brush handle to curl them. They are actually 3 types of blue and neon yellow but since royal mail havent delivered any mail due to the snow i dont have a memory card for my camera and this is a crappy phone photo lol.

What do you think? Any improvements I can make?

Oh MAN, those look gorgeous! Well done!

I'm sure there's going to be a useful critique at some point here, but these look fantastic as far as I can tell! I love the varying degrees of "curled" when it gets to the very end... That'll ensure that they won't lock together at all.

Seriously, I can't wait to see these installed. Are they for someone else, or for you?

Niiiice! A lot of curls you see are all sort of one length & curl, but I love the variation in yours. They look so much more real(as real as synthetic dreads can look lolz), and I bet they'll look fabulous installed.

I think they look great! I like how the curls aren't all perfectly uniform; it makes it looks like naturally wavy/curly hair as opposed to curling iron ringlets.. but, you know, in dread form :)

i werent too sure how to make the ends neat because some of them looked a bit straggly when i had curled them. Godknows how ive ended up with them all sorts of lengths because they did start off as one length lol.

They look really nice! I think they have just the right amount of curl too. I bet they'll look nice and full when they're installed.

Whoa! Please tell me you blew your initial expectations out of the water when you finished these? They're brilliant! And they've retained themselves very nicely!

Oooo. These are great. n_n

Though it must have been a pain to curl the dreads one by one.
What I do to curl my dreadies (which is a faster way) is to tie the dreads around a broom handle, put the handle over a sink or the tub, then just pour really hot water on them. Then I just wait for them to dry and take them off. And this method produces some really nice curly dreads. :)

Wow, that works?? That's awesome! Does it matter what the material of the broom is?

Nah, I don't think so. I've been using a plastic broom and it hasn't hurt it. :)

LOVE. I especially like the natural feel of them, since they're not all exactly uniform. WELL done!

naaaah i didnt do them one by one, i did them how you said. By brush i meant a broom, i bet you thought i meant like a hair brush lol. Its a yorkshire thing.

I used a metal one just cos it kept the heat a bit better but wood or plastic is probably just as good.
