First Make up Trial + first try green eyes
Had a go at a more subtle look. Possibly cyber-like
Its not the neatest but I think it's quite nice...
Just the eyes done
Used:
MUA shade 5 Pearl eyeshadow (given to me in a swap a while back)
Barry M trio eyeshadow (the smokey trio..used the white/light grey colour)
Barry M kohl pencil eyeliner white/30
17 soft liner eye pen in soft jet
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recently I decided that I wanted to try out some make up as I've only ever really worn mascara and eyeliner.
I had a look on here and other places for recommendations/reviews etc and came up with a few bits and pieces so went to Boots today and spent a ridiculous amount of money, lol.
I think the foundation and base looks ok but I'm not very skilled with the eye area so I've not done the best job. I apparently cannot use an eye liner pen to save myself.
Anyway..here's some before pics...
and the after pics
I'm gonna blame my pose/the lighting etc for the bad pics, I think in trying to have a straight face my eyes are not open enough and im slouching, lol .. but overall I think I look ok..tho maybe a bit.."hooker-y" and dramatic :/
Not really sure about the red lip gloss and as I said i'm not great with the eye pen..tho I did use eye pencil too.
So really just looking for feedback..and tips maybe on how to have "smokey eyes" and not "black eyes" lol
I just wanted to try a "basic" look first..will maybe progress to a cyber/rave look for when I go out

It looks good!
Eyeliner takes some practice.
I always tell people to practice eyeliner before they go to bed. It does make sense, I promise! It means if you go wrong it doesn't matter as you're going to wash your face anyway
or print of some pictures of eyes and practice drawing eyeliner on them

Re: First Make up Trial
For smokey eyes it's always best to have a smudging brush
far right....
It helps blend the colour out more, so as not to look like it's just drawn on.
It's a great start, I'm not the greatest make-up expert as I can still mess mine up. I don't like eyebrows, blush or a coloured lip, but that's just me & i know to some I'll be committing makeup crimes.

Re: First Make up Trial
thanks. I'l have another try soon.
I got a triple barry M eyeliner set so that came with an eyeshadow brush(pad, the normal one) and a wee other brush, I presume to blend. I'm always wary about not wanting to take eyeshadow above my eye crease..I know a lot of folk do that tho

I like the red lips
Don't worry about the eyeliner, it takes practise. With that said, I do bugger mine up quite frequently, especially doing flicks and stuff

Re: First Make up Trial
The general rule of thumb is that if you do dramatic eyes you do nude lips, and vice versa. Obviously if you're going for an avant garde or theatrical look ignore this, but it's not a bad bit of advice for everyday make up.
Also, are you wearing blush in the after pictures? You've got a fair bit of colour in your cheeks anyway and you probably don't need any, or if you do it should be a neutral peach shade rather than a pink as the latter will bring out the red tones in your skin.
Your foundation looks cracking though, it appears to be the right shade for your skintone and there is no obviously difference between your neck and face which is the main mistake people make when they first start using base.

I thought that the colour would go from my face a bit more when I had foundation on so bought the blush as well
I do like the foundation, surprised I managed to get that right first time. It's Bourjois 10 hour sleep effect (71)if anyone wants to know

Re: First Make up Trial
It's taken me years to get my eyeliner flicks right...years of doing it EVERY SINGLE DAY...I can do it pretty well now, and I swear by Rimmel's exaggerate liquid liner.
I tend to do what Dystopatica said and keep the lips nude...I always do smoky eyes/ heavy eye makeup, so tend to keep my lips plain
I take my eye-shadow above my crease and blend, a lot of it depends on eye shape though, as everyone's is different, it's just finding what suits you best! To start blending experiments, stick to different shades of the same colour, then you can start to go wild
Not sure if you're on my facebook (sorry I have tons of HEF people but can't remember all of them), but I have tons of pics if you want to see more

Re: First Make up Trial
I definitely need to experiment with a mix of eye liner pens/liquid/pencils, lots of trial and error, and ditch the red I think.
I dont have u on fb, had a look for yours but couldn't find it on the board

Re: First Make up Trial
Looks like your doing really well and the eyeliner really isnt bad but it does take practise. I swear by Q tips to correct the little bits that arent right instead of wiping it off and starting again. I normally would have recommened Burjois liquid liner it has a really fine brush but they stopped making it a while back(dammnit! I loved that stuff). Your foundation base is great and just experiment and have some fun =) xx

Re: First Make up Trial
thanks Sarah, she PMd me
Had a wee influx of HEF fb adds today :p
@justapuppetonastring
Thanks for the tips, would definitely save a lot of eyeliner, lol. I think the worst bit is my shakey eye lids.. advised not to pull the eye taut so tried a cotton bud to hold it down but still not the best.

lol! true :p
Though I find if I can put eyeliner on without pulling my eye it'll not look so wonky. guess its personal preference tho

Re: First Make up Trial + first try green eyes
I never pull my lid, I find that makes the line even when my eye is pulled and totally wonky when its not. Since I don't walk around yanking at my eyelids it kinda defeats the object. I just line by looking down into a mirror with my eye relaxed and it works much better.

Re: First Make up Trial + first try green eyes
I don't pull either, I just half close the eye I'm lining and line it. I try not to close my eye as I find it doesn't give as smooth a surface for some reason lol.
