The first ones look a little flat, but the second 2 pics look good. TBH, it's all trial & error with the washing machine method (or I found that, anyway)
A palm roll after washing (whilst still damp) should "unflatten" the first ones.
Did you put them in the machine on their own (you get different results, if they're in with a few clothing items) Everyone's machine is different too, sometimes mine come out & don't even look like they've been through the machine

I split the roving into two, put them into the machine all together. then ripped them all apart when they came out (that's how the other colours got on there); palm rolled them, then into the machine for another couple of goes

yeah, they can felt a little together in the machine. Palm roll before they go in but sometimes, it can't be helped.

I loved the effect, but I may braid them together for a final whirl in the machine Palmrolling them first Thank you for the tips - I'm getting there
