**Install pics up**Second time dreads. Single ended black
Hey everyone,
Just want to get some feedback on these.
They are the second set of dreads I've made, the first time I made my own was 3 years ago.
I have sealed them with a 1050 watt steamer, the same one Rivet Licker uses (if you've seen it).
I also steamed them again after using the iron technique because I felt they were still somewhat squishy? If you have any tips for using a steamer for me, I am all ears
Also, I'm sorry the picture quality is crappy, my real camera broke.
I'm really looking forward to making good dreads, so I'm not going to get offended or upset if you are brutally honest with me
eep the pics are a bit big.. sorry
And here are the pics of the install:
I am very pleased with the way they turned out!! What do you think?

They look fine! The steamer works ok. I'm on my fourth one haha.
You just need to work on evening lengths and that's it! The ends could use a tiny bit more sealing to make sure they won't unravel but you have gotten the jist of it.
I'm lookig at the pics on my phone and they look good, but I would probably have to have a closer look when I'm at my computer

Do I just completely blast the ends with the steamer to seal them?

Yes. But by blast are you suggesting you're using the jet of steam?

I was using the same attatchment that you use in your vid. The curtain one with the sock thingy you put over the square bit. I had some pliers, like yours and held the tip tight between them and pressed the steamer into a towel with the dread between the towel and the steamer..
did that make sense? lol..
I havn't used just the naked spout on the steamer, it comes out like too fast and not really hot enough i thought

Yep, makes sense!
Twist the ends really, really tight before steaming though.

Re: Second time dreads. Single ended black (lots of pics)
Wow okay..
I got my package from Afrocare... And the hair was completely different.. It was easier to backcomb, it sealed really nicely, it actually shrunk when I sealed it, my ends perfectly taper and the dreads are tighter even though I used the same technique and sealing method for both materials..
I will post some pics in a minute to show the difference..
Was it possible I wasn't using KK? The hair I originally used didnt seal at the tips at all.. But this new stuff is awesome.
Also, when I got my first bag it was double the amount of hair I got from afrocare, like you know how you get the one clump of hair that is tied with a ruber band, I got two of those from the one bag...

Very possible the first batch of hair wasn't kanekalon....unfortunately there seems to be alot of this issue going around. Have you tried holding the ends or tapers with dreads when you blast them? You'll be able to get them smaller and cleaner, not to mention saving your fingers from nasty burns .

It wasn't the one on eBay that was $5 a packet was it?
I hope that listing is permanently gone after my report.
I know a girl in Canberra that bought it, even after I told her not to.

No, it wasn't from ebay..
It was from a store in Canberra called The African Look..
I will upload some new pics of the new dreads and show you the difference

Re: Second time dreads. Single ended black (lots of pics)
sorry about the shit pictures.. they look so much better in real life.
Lara you mentioned the lengths of my first ones.. I didnt struggle maintaining the length of these ones, this was so much easier to work with..
The colours I've used are: Black, deep purple, green and neon pink/purple all from Afrocare. I've got a few marbled ones in there, I love the purple and pink together.

Yeah, you really have to ask for Kanekalon at African Hair stores. And they only usually carry natural colours. I didn't even know there was an afro store in Canberra LOL. Where is it?
Your new attempts are MUCH better. Although you shouldn't be afraid to use more hair, because some have come out a lot thinner. Just keep practising.
Use this tut for when you split the hair.

Regardless of how thick or thin, try working on the uniformity now. That is the last step into making good dreads! They're really well made, but just need the last step!

Good job
These are pretty.
I just made my first real set after buying 'REAL' KK and a steamer.
Had an issue with the original KK being mixed with something that made it hard to work with.
Damm ebay grrrr.
Cant wait to see some more of your work
Cheers, Manda
