im going to a hawaiian fancy dress party at the beggining of august...
here is what im thinking of wearing.
the blue and green dreads in my latest show off with a big blue flower in my hair,
white bikini top with sky blue flowers on and a navy blue shirt tied at the front not buttoned
the only thing is i really cant afford to buy anything i dont even have a few quid, so i need to make a hoola style skirt.
i have an old pale blue bedsheet the same colour as my bikini i was going to cut it into strips and loop it over some elastic which would tie at one side with a flower brooch over it (imagaine a giant fall tied round my waist haha)
do you think that would look ok or would it be a bit too naff and home made??? _________________ *its not about style...its a way of life* |

from what i've read lots of hula now a days is done in cotton wrap skirts... so if you have a nice flowy skirt you could just wear that. i think the theme is still covered by the rest of your outfit
here's a diy link for you i just grabbed from google
http://www.realhula.com/hula-pau_skirt.html
if you are stuck on the whole raffia/grass thing i'm sure you can find a diy site for that too _________________ i like my coffee black

Ya, most hula isn't done in the grass skirts anymore, unless by professional dancers for the tourist industry. When I was dancing hula we would wear fabric skirts which vary in length from above the knee to floor length.
Just look for some floral designs! |

You were a Hula girl? How awesome!!!
I so want to see Hawaii one day, even if it's just to laugh at Dog the Bounty Hunter. He's so cheesy, but I love Beth <3
I think the heat may kill me though _________________ http://www.halocaustic.co.uk

And also, how cool you did hula... Although it kinda reiterates the whole childhood idea that all the women in Hawaii are hula girls. Or it was my idea anyway:( Meh still so jealous! |

Haha yeah I was a hula dancer. I did Hawaiian dance as well as Tahitian, which is where I get my poi experience from. I had no clue that people do it out of the Pacific.
Everyone seems to think that we dance hula but hardly any of us do.
I LOVE HER BREASTS TOO |
