Well im fed up of having no dreads in all the time, i have pink hair and so have to wear a wig to work so i was trying to think of a way to cover dreads too. My idea was getting one of the 3/4 wigs, making a hole at the back around the middle/lower part of the wig, and pushing all the dreads through the hole (they should be hidden under the hair from the wig then) Do you think this would work? Or has anyone tried this before? The wigs always look quite bulky at the top/ back anyway so i was hoping it would kind of blend. Id really appreciate any advice or tips for doing this!

oo I have thought about this myself. I think all the dreads underneath depending how chunky you have them would look a bit bulky on top.. I can imagine the wig would be hard to keep down and in place.

Idk, most people with natural dreads have a hard time wearing wigs because of the bulk, I can't imagine putting a wig over 60 DEs! Laughing

i was going to say that, i cant even picture someone wearing a wig atop of dreads, most wigs are made so the wic cap underneath fits the skull, i doubt a wig would sit over dreads without a problem, it would look very bulky and i doubt it would hide them very well, but then again i could be wrong, i mean unless you wanted to go for like an old school beehive hair do but thats the only thing i could thing would hide dreads!

not trying to be rude but i honestly cant see this working, i mean i want someone to prove me wrong and show me a pic, i think even thin dreads would be too thick to hide underneath the wig, it wont look natural at all and would just make her head mis-shapen, thats just my opinion!!! lol i mean there is no way of pinning down dreads to stay close to the scalp, and if she was to tie it back or just let it hang down, she would need a pretty thick wig to cover it all!

Good point willow. Mandysnow can you wear a bandana to work over your preinstalled dreads?

this isnt really wig like, but useful if you needed to cover your hair up for work. Have you ever seen the african women who wind their hair up in a really big headband? My sister had some roving in and had an important meeting, she just bought a headband that matched her suit and she got loads of compliments for such an unusual yet smart style.

Dunno if that helps
xx

I'm flirting with the idea of doing an install on my 3"-long hair and won't be allowed to show my dreads off at work (conservative pentecostal private school - yikes). Had a look at my wig collection, did a bit of pondering and realised pretty quickly that there's no way a full install would hide under one of those suckers.

So, I reckon that amassing a nice collection of snoods, wraps and kerchiefs would be the way to go. And to further conceal an install, those clip-in Modu fringe sets that Doc sells are the love.

lucky for me i am allowed my dreads and i work at cineplex.
however, part of my uniform involves wearing a hat and well... it pretty much just sits on my head rather than hugging it properly ^-^
my point is, if i can't even wear a hat with my dreads, a wig would be uber hard.
i've thought about this too, for instances that i might need different hair, and also if i want to make a dread wig and put it over [don't ask me why i would do this, i just think it would be neat...]
if it works out please please please post pics.
hell, even if it FAILS please post pics. because maybe you're try didn't work but maybe soemone else can look and come up with something.
so yeah, imo a wig over top of dreads might prove to be impossible.
but good luck.
