|
|
(if this is in the wrong place please lemme know, although I thought it was appropriate to put it in the help and advice bit.)
I got my labret pierced early this year, but a couple of months ago I started wearing a 10mm bar because my other one was too short and I couldn't screw the ball on properly.
I noticed that I had two very large mouth ulcers forming on my gums below my 2 front teeth at the bottom (directly near my labret.) I've now got a smaller bar in and it's not rubbing my gums, and although the ulcers have gone, I've got more gum showing than before; like the bar has pushed it down, and it's significantly more than the rest of my gums. One part has actually gone down in a diagonal sorta slant, should I be worried? Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do? _________________ My Photography: http://becca-photography.deviantart.com/

Hmm, i'd get it looked over to be honest..
ive had my labret piercing for nearly 4 years now and mines fine. The only thing different is that I have a small circular bit in my lip on the inside where the disc at the back lies (I have a reasonably small bar) _________________ OHH EEE OHH AAHAA TING TANG WALLA WALLA BING BANG

You're right. I'd try your piercer first though _________________ OHH EEE OHH AAHAA TING TANG WALLA WALLA BING BANG

There could be a chance it could be nothing to do with the piercing .... But i don't like to take chances.
I know it can happen though and is a real worry when you dont know if its just an ordinary ulcer or it got there with help of the piercing. _________________ Waysted on The Mazzanti Effect's first show! See Myspace for more details.

I've got slight receding gums where the discs of my labrets and my tongue bar rubs. I found that in the past 10 years they have only receded to a certain point and although it's not exactly the best thing in the world as I doubt the gum will ever grow back it's not the worst. Just keep an eye out for any excessive erosion, as obviously you could get secondary issues such as infection or damage to the teeth undneath _________________ Every electronic word I read fries my brain a little more....eventually you will all be able to understand me.... |

hi,i had my labret (under my lips just from the inside at the bottom of my teeth) for 12 years..i had to remove it yes because ut pushes the gums down discovering the bottom of my teeth.
It depends so where you will do your piercing..a labret can be done on different place. If you do it on the right or left of your mouth under it you shouldn't have any problem as it won't touch your gums, same if you does it on the top.
I never had an ulcer or anything like that.Lost likely if it hurts or does a 'circle' is either that your labret is too small either bad quality...

i dont know if anyone has said thia already but i know my sister had the same problem and the pierced sugested a bar with rubber backing so it wouldnt scrape her gums up!! some piercers should have them in stock, not everyone is a fan though but it works wonders! _________________ ~DA page

The risk is that these teeth may fall out (that's what i've heard)
I've had my labret done, but never wore plastic jewelry, but I recently got
my lip done and they pierced it with this kind of jewelry that had some silicone
thing-y in the back so it won't break the teeth..
Looks like regular silver stud, but has this silicone thing in the back _________________ Death is just a heartbeat away. |

Its not the fact that its a hard material, its just the friction the bar creates so having the rubber backing wouldn't make a difference. When I wore labrets I also got ulcers around the holes and on my gums in line with them, which were horrible. I wear rings now to be on the safe side, even though my dentist keeps moaning at me to take them out. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/x_Lorn_x |

yeah that sounds like what i was talking about. lol... its more easy on your teeth and my sister's gums didnt get cut up and her sores she had went away because the material is softer than the metal and the friction was less! _________________ ~DA page

A dental labret? Mine have a white disk at the back that stops erosion. I think they're fantastic. *Thumbs up* _________________ -Dinky of the Humperness-

Gum erosion is the result of either poor placement of the piercing, the wrong jewelry, or both.
I had my labret for about 7 years, and I had to repierce it twice because it had a habit of closing up if I took the jewelry out for more than an hour.
I wore regular flat-back studs for a while, but after the second repiercing I noticed that my gums were starting to recede down on my two front bottom teeth. I went back to the piercer who fitted me with a fishtail labret, which worked wonderfully for 3 years. Last year though I noticed that the gum on one of my other teeth were also receding, on the side I regularly wore the fishtail jewelry on.
I heard about bioplast, so I decided to give that a try. After three years of having a fishtail, I absolutely could not stand the feeling of the flat back rub against my gums. All I could think about what how it damaging my gums, and the plastic back was actually rougher on my gums than metal was.
I'm a chewer, and I went through one bioplast stud in about 4 days. My chewing and peeling it up made it feel like sandpaper on my gums, and those things are expensive enough that I can't afford to eat two a week.
Finally last fall I decided to throw in the towel, after 7 years I took the damn thing out and had it repierced as a vertical labret! I love it so much more, and I've bypassed my teeth entirely. |

I usually wear a plastic labret stud in mine as it's better for gums (mine is like, so in the wrong place really, planning on getting it repierced at some point less wonky ) and also because it's easier to hide with no effort (just take the ball off!). Currently I'm wearing a glow in the dark plastic ring though.
I have one of the labrets with the white plasticy bit on the disc, and it felt exactly the same as metal to me, both in my mouth and when just like, seeing what it felt like with my fingers. :s |
